Vacuum Furnace Features

Key Highlights of Vacuum Heat Treatment Furnaces by Our Joint Venture Partner, Systherms GmbH, Germany

Hot Zone
Thermal Insulation
The innermost layer consists of a rigid graphite board with a backing of flexible graphite felt.
Heating System
Our distinct design utilizes graphite plates, both surrounding the furnace and extending along its depth. This design maximizes surface area coverage, ensuring a highly uniform temperature distribution within the workspace, unlike traditional tube or rod-type heaters.
Convective Heating
System
To achieve uniform heating under Nitrogen gas pressure of up to 2 bar, a dedicated CC fan is installed on the front door. This setup enhances heat transfer during lower temperature ranges up to 800 degrees Celsius. Additionally, convective heating is employed for the tempering cycle.
Quenching
System
Cylindrical cooling with all round nozzles. Front insulation on door is also provided with nozzles which can be opened and closed for convective heating and quenching.
Gas Circulation
High capacity water cooled recirculating fan and cooling motor with VFD and high water flow finned heat exchanger for rapid gas quenching.
ISO Quench
Controlled cooling by monitoring surface and core temperature and varying fan motor speed, gas pressure and switching on/off heating.
Quench Pressure
Up to 15 bar absolute Nitrogen
Solution Annealing
Process

Steel grades are typically austenitic stainless steels of 300 series. The process consists of heating the material up to a temperature of 1150 centigrade and holding it long enough for the carbon to go into the solution. After this the material is quickly cooled to prevent carbon from coming out from the solution. Solution annealed stainless steel is in its most corrosion resistant and ductile condition.

Advantages of Vacuum Annealing over conventional Annealing
  • No oxidation or de-carb on component/ part surface
  • Minimum dimensional distortion
  • Uniform microstructure due to better process control
Products heat treated

Stainless steel & Inconel gaskets/ seals, Hydraulic fittings, stainless steel tubings & bellows, Stainless steel pipes (up to 1200 mm length), Duplex stainless steel parts for Oil & Gas Industry etc…

Steel Grades Heat Treated

Austenitic Stainless Steel Grades such as SS 316, SS 304, SS 301, SS 303, SS 316L, Duplex Stainless Steels, Inconel 600, 625, 718, 825

Precipitation Hardening
Process

Precipitation heat treatments strengthen materials by allowing the controlled release of constituents to form precipitate clusters which significantly enhance the strength of the component.

Precipitation hardening is typically performed at temperatures ranging from 900 to 1150°F in vacuum, inert atmosphere or air for hold times ranging from 1 hour to 4 hours depending on exact material and characteristics specified.

Vacuum Brazing
What is Vacuum Brazing?

Brazing is a metal-joining technique wherein a filler metal is used to join two or more materials by drawing it into the joint by capillary action. A filler metal is a material with a melting point lower than that of the materials to be joined.

Advantages of Brazing over Welding
  • Base metals never melt, thus enabling close tolerances and joining materials neatly without going for secondary finishing
  • Homogenous heating of components reduces thermal distortion when compared to welding
  • Suitable for cost-efficient joining of complex and multi-part assemblies as brazing can easily join non-metals and dissimilar metals
Vacuum Brazing is far superior to Conventional Brazing
  • Extremely clean
  • Flux-free braze joints with high integrity and superior strength
  • Improved temperature uniformity
  • Lower residual stresses owing to slow heating and cooling cycle, resulting in dramatically improved mechanical and thermal properties of the material
  • Age hardening or hardening heat treatment of the work piece is part of the metal-joining process, but all in a single furnace cycle
IGVTs competence in vacuum brazing/ USPs

Plasma Nitriding
Process

This is a low temperature process where voltage is applied between the parts to be nitride and the furnace wall. A glow discharge with high ionization level is generated around the parts. On the surface area, directly charged by the ions, nitrides are formed and decompose releasing active nitrogen into the parts surface.

Process
Temperature
400 centigrade to 600 centigrade
Pressure
1-3 mbar
Gas Composition
Nitrogen, Hydrogen
Time
4 Hrs to 30 Hrs (depending on case depth requirement)
Layer thickness
From 50 microns to 300 microns, please check with us for higher layer thickness
Advantages over conventional nitriding
  • Lower process temperature and time as compared to conventional Nitriding
  • Possibility of elimination of white layer in Plasma Ion Nitriding
  • No post cleaning is required
  • Improve Abrasive coefficient
  • Improve wear resistance
  • Improve fatigue resistance (20 - 40 %)
  • Resistance to thermal shock
  • Improve corrosion resistance
  • Improve hot working tools life span
  • Possibility of partial/ selective part nitriding using only metallic masking
  • Improve wear resistance
